This past week there has been vandalism to political signs of three opponents that are running against the current administration. This damage was done by one of their vocal supporters and his son. There were arrests made in this matter and the State police and the courts will be handling this.
That was disturbing enough, however, I received a letter in the mail from candidates that are running for election this year. In this letter was an invitation to a Meet and Greet that these candidates were holding. I see nothing wrong with this one bit, everyone that is running has the right to speak to people and answer questions. Apparently, this upset some, as I noticed another very vocal supporter for the current administration posted a photo of the invitation that was sent out on Facebook.
What I do have a problem with is the fact that our current town board held a budget workshop on October 17, 2017. At the end of this workshop, they set a date to have the public hearing for the budget. There was a lengthy discussion as to what dates would work for all. Mrs. Templeton could not do October 31st as she takes her son trick or treating, as I am sure many parents would be doing. Joan Harris is leaving for vacation on November 2nd, so they decided on the date of November 1, 2017 at 6:30 pm. I watched the video and heard this, and I saw a post on Facebook by Kathy Templeton stating this date and time. On October 24, 2017, they held a special meeting to pass a resolution for the “official” date and time for the public hearing. Mind you, they had set it at the budget workshop. Low and behold, they changed the day and time to November 2, 2017 at 6 pm. The exact day and time that this meet and greet is being held by their opponents in the election. This is an obvious attempt to do two things, keep people from going to the meet and greet to be able to talk to candidates and to hopefully keep the candidates from attending the public hearing to ask questions themselves. This is about the lowest I have seen of these town board members and supervisor to date. How dare they try to manipulate to make things better for themselves for election time. We are all taxpayers, even the people running for office, we all have a right to ask questions, they had already picked a date and time to hold this, the day before this event. Once they find out about the event, they change it. They are pathetic in my eyes. So now, Joan Harris will not be at the public hearing to answer questions from the tax payers because she will be out of town. Which I am sure she is not upset about as I heard her say on the video to Mr. Eddy that she hates public hearings.
I have also heard that people are tired of all the trouble between the “two sides”. I am only on the side of doing what is right for this town. This town needs a good cleaning out from top to bottom. We have board members that scold residents as if they were 5 years old at meetings, they tell them to shut up and stop the meetings until there is quiet. Is that ever the pot calling the kettle black? I remember many meetings where most of the same people sitting up front were the ones yelling and screaming at meetings. Cynthia Hyde did it as town clerk, she was an embarrassment then and she is an even more of one now.
I hope this meet and greet will still be held, even if it is later that night, as I plan on being at both the public hearing and the meet and greet, even if it is just to apologize to the candidates running for the infantile attitudes of our current board members and supervisor.
Long discussion on setting the date for the public hearing for the budget. Please note, they set it for November 1, 2017.
